Katie's Music Picks: October 2016

Katie's Music Picks: October 2016
"You're the only record on replay; wanna listen to every day." -Sydney Leigh, Bring the Bass Back (feat. A Cross)

October is finally here, which is my favorite month of the year! It's time to soak up that last-minute sun in prep for longer nights. I came across a bunch of new music this past month. From tuning into my Spotify constantly to reviewing Sydney Leigh's latest EP release, my ears have been pleased. Listen to my playlist here, along with reading about some of my favorites.

Albums To Listen To

  1. West of the West by Goldroom
    • Genre: Electronic, chill house
    • Favorite Song: Lying To You
      • Goldroom has one of the most original sounds when it comes to house. I found them through Majestic Casual years back when I first started to get into house chill music. They were one of the artists that got me fully immersed into the genre. I've been awaiting this album for a while now. It's great quality and perfect for afternoons laying outside.
  2. The Divine Feminine by Mac Miller
    • Genre: Hip-Hop
    • Favorite Song: Dang! (feat. Anderson .Paak)
      • I included Dang! on my last playlist post because I was excited for this album to drop. It finally did, and I had it on repeat all day while I was getting work done. I was skeptical, I will admit, when the album was announced because he had just put out an album last year. Mac Miller never disappoints, though.
  3. Disappear Here by Bad Suns
    • Genre: Alternative
    • Favorite Song: Daft Pretty Boys
      • Such a jam. I could listen to Bad Suns all the time. Their last album was an essential must on my playlist over the summer. Bad Suns puts out music that makes you feel good and want to dance around. I feel like this album is perfect to blast on road trips with the windows down.

New Releases To Check Out

  1. Starboy (feat. Daft Punk) by The Weeknd
    • Genre: Alternative, R&B
      • For years, I've been listening to The Weeknd. I remember being hooked when I heard "What You Need" when Trilogy was released back in 2012. He has evolved dramatically after being put into the spotlight. It goes back to a dark, mysterious vibe. Daft Punk on the beat matches that feeling.
  2. California Heaven (feat. ScHoolboy Q) by JAHKOY
    • Genre: R&B/soul
      • JAHKOY and ScHoolboy Q come together to put out an awesome single. This song is essential for chilling in your room with friends. It has a great beat that you can sway to.
  3. Gold by Kiiara
    • Genre: Alternative
      • I was indifferent about this song after my first listen. The beat was weird to me and I didn't know how it vibed. Now, it's been on repeat on my walks to class. The bold beats put a spring in my step on the brutal walk. I also like jamming to it before going out with friends: time to break out the dance moves I don't have at all.
